Physical Education

PE AT ST PAUL’S

Our PE curriculum aims to develop confident, healthy and active children who enjoy physical activity and understand its importance for lifelong wellbeing. From EYFS to Year 6, we provide a broad and inclusive curriculum that builds fundamental movement skills, promotes teamwork and resilience, and supports physical and emotional development.

Physical development begins in EYFS through daily movement, outdoor play and adult-led activities. Pupils in Years 1–6 receive PE lessons which focus on a range of sports across the year. Lessons are delivered by specialist sports coaches. Pupils also benefit from swimming provided by Pools to School for every pupil across school for blocks of daily lessons over a one- or two-week block. Balanceability, Bikeability, extracurricular clubs and competition opportunities are planned throughout the year. Our physical education is enhanced by outdoor activities in Forest School – which is planned for classes during the year. At lunchtime breaks – children participate through choice, in fun competitive and challenging activities which children are encouraged to take the lead in organising.

Pupils leave our school physically confident, motivated and prepared to lead active lifestyles. They demonstrate strong physical skills, positive attitudes towards sport, and an understanding of healthy living. High participation levels, enjoyment and progression reflect the success of our PE curriculum.
