Barbara Kinch - Chair - Nominated by the Diocese of Manchester
Barbara is a schools advisor for the Diocese of Manchester supporting schools in; recruitment, ETHOS Health checks, follow up to Inspections and courses for Governors.
Barbara was previously Head Teacher for 18 years at St James' CE Primary School in Manchester. She has also worked as a SIAMs Inspector for 21 years up until 2017.
Barbara is Chair of Governors at Park View Community Primary School as well as a Trustee of Bolton and Farnworth Multi-Academy Trust. She is also a member of the Governing Body of St James' Primary School in Farnworth.
Barbara is a panel member of the Independent Appeals for and Exclusions (Manchester).
Julian Heaton - Nominated by the Diocese of Manchester
Julien is currently Ex Officio on the Governing Body of Bury Church of England High School. Julian had been involved in school governance since 1988 when he was appointed a Foundation Governor of a Controlled school in Stockport. Since then, Julien has also served on Governing bodies in Local Authority primary/secondary schools and CE Aided Primary schools.
Julien's experience includes hard decision making around budgets, strategy, leadership and curriculum.
Mark Granby - Nominated by the Diocese of Manchester
Mark has been a school governor for 18 years. He is Chair of a Trust Board for a College sponsored Multi Academy Trust which sponsors two community schools. One of these schools moved from Special Measures to Good in just 18 months. He is also a Governor at a College of Further Education and has recently chaired the IEB at a primary school placed in Special Measures.
Mark was designated as a National Leader of Governance in May 2014. He completed his DfE accredited training to conduct external reviews of Governance in May 2015. He has conducted a substantial number of reviews covering primary, secondary and MAT settings through his work as a Governance Consultant. He is currently the coordinator for Governor Training in Bury.
Paul Cooke - Nominated by the Local Authority
Paul is Strategic Lead (Education Services) with Bury Local Authority. Paul had enjoyed a long standing role in Local Authority Education Services predominately focused on strategy, planning and management. He has 20 years experience in a leadership role with responsibility for Core Local Authority Statutory Functions in relation to Governance, school organisation, pupil place planning, school improvement, admission and asset management.
Paul has a detailed understanding of the Statutory Frameworks underpinning the roles and responsibilities of the Local Authority and School. He has significant experience of working both with school leaders and Governing Bodies in a role providing advice, support, challenge and intervention.
