Y1 End of Half Term Tea Party. We celebrated learning what half is and how we make it in our maths lessons. We have also been learning about British Queens so we made our own fabulous crowns just like the one that would be worn at the Coronation
As part of our class topic about castles, Year 1 visited Skipton Castle. Our tour guide showed us how the castle would have been used nearly 800 years ago! We looked at different artefacts including a replica toilet (we did not like the idea of using leaves for toilet paper). We learned about what the ‘cross’ in the walls was used for – shooting arrows. We also experienced what it would be like for a prisoner in a cold, dark dungeon!!!
Year 1 are learning about time and what the hands of a clock show us. We held a class homework competition to assemble a very plain clock and make it brightly coloured and interesting. We had many fantastic entries but this clock of a horse on a farm by Amelia Polomska was our class winner. Amelia loves horses and colouring. She is also excellent at identifying ‘o’clock’ and ‘half past’.
Congratulations to Amelia, who got to take Ralph the puppy home this weekend. Ralph had a very busy time with Amelia, and she has written about their time together in his diary. Have a read to see all the fun they had together.
What if we couldn't see?
In science, we have been trying to understand how difficult life could be if we did not have a sense of sight. We learnt that by using our sense or hearing, we could follow the direction of where someone's voice may be coming from.
In Year 1 the children have been learning how to identify 1 more. We looked at lots of different ways we can show what 1 more looks like.
